How do I get there?
The Sanctuary at Two Rivers is perched in the mountain jungle of Cabuya at the southernmost tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, only 3 miles from Costa Rica’s first National Nature Preserve, Reserva Cabo Blanco. All guests must arrive at The Sanctuary no later than 3:00pm on arrival day; please schedule your travel accordingly.
Flying In and Out of Costa Rica at San Jose International Airport
Of the two international airports in Costa Rica, San Jose International Airport (SJO) is the most convenient airport to The Sanctuary. Frequent international flights are available at this modern airport.
For your homebound travel plan at least two hours between local air and international travel.
IMPORTANT: There is a departure tax of approximately $26 at San Jose airport when you leave Costa Rica. It needs to be paid in cash (US$ or Costa Rican Colones) or with a Visa credit card at the airport on your departure day.
Traveling In and Out from San Jose to The Sanctuary
Once you have arrived in San Jose, your flight schedule may allow you to connect with a local plane to Tambor for a 25 minute flight and then a 40 minute taxi ride to The Sanctuary.
The other option is to arrange to be driven approximately 5 hours by road and ferry from San Jose to The Sanctuary.
By Air to Tambor, then Taxi to The Sanctuary
Two local airlines offer scheduled flights and charter services to Tambor at comparable rates. The flight time is approximately 25 minutes. Sansa Airlines is conveniently located adjacent to the San Jose International Airport. Nature Air is approximately 10 miles at Pavas Airport.

We all need to take a time out. Every single one of us. A retreat is just that, a retreat from daily grind in order to get clear on what you like about your life and what could be working better. Or even just realizing those things you’ve outgrown. Just like we have to clean out our closets now and again (whether we want to or not) we need to take time to mentally declutter as well.
My upcoming retreat to Prana del Mar, Baja Mexico is the perfect place and time to do this mental detox. And I include way more than just yoga. This is a life coaching experience where you’ll learn practical tools to apply to your life right away.
Join me, do it for you. Don’t wait.

In June I will return to Italy where I am always more conscious of the pacing of life. In the art cities like Siena and Florence the cadence of one’s walk is mindful, never too fast (whether or not you’re walking in heels on cobble stoned streets.) And in the Tuscan countryside the way in which one eats and drinks is even slower so as to savor the tastes completely. Then my travels will bring me to the warmest sun of all, that of the Amalfi area of Southern Italy. There I reconnected to the Sun in the most splendid way while living on Ischia!
And what I observe when living in the sun is that you move more slowly.
I am inspired to bring this learning back into the practice of Sun Salutations, Surya Namaskar, in yoga class too. There is nothing natural about practicing our Sun Salutes at break neck speed. If that’s the pace then your breath speeds up in a frenetic way causing your mind and body to overheat. You leave feeing frantic even if at first you misidentify this as “energized”.
Try it for yourself, on a sunny day go run around as fast as you can and then observe whether or not you feel more or less connected to your life. For me, I only ever want to feel more, and let light make me see more too. I don’t want to rush in my yoga because I’ve found that rushing in my life only led me to emotional and mental burn-out.
Yoga empowers us to be present to our magnificence but not manic. It is as Stephen Covey writes, “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Celebrating which in sanskrit is “Namaskar” requires us to enjoy the light of each moment. Therefore Surya Namaskar, the Sun Salutations, are a traditional way to celebrate mindfully the light within us for each of us is self-effulgent like the Sun.
We have no need to prove anything or create undue friction by going too fast. As Hafiz so eloquently puts it,
“I am happy even before I have a reason. I am full of Light even before the sky. Can greet the sun or the moon.”
Today practice Sun Salutation A and B with this awareness. Even practice outside on a sunny day. And for variation in Warrior A try this:
*Inhale reach up from your waist say to yourself “I am celebrating!”
*Exhale hands behind your back in yoga mudra, breath in, breath out and fold, “I am releasing.”
*Inhale reach up
*Exhale open your arms into prana mudra say to yourself “I am receiving”
