21 Affirmations to Transform Your Life

By: Silvia Mordini, Featured on Daily Cup of Yoga

I cry at movies and commercials and youtube videos and people hugging at the airport and puppies playing and…well you get the picture. Even though I am not part of the action or in the movie, to the brain it doesn’t matter. The mind will fool our brains because the neural networks of our thinking brain uses past memories to quickly respond to the visual cues.

The reality is that we have more than one mind. And each of these minds has a different experience of what is true.

We can influence our mind through suggestion known by medical professionals as the placebo effect. We will believe a pill will make us feel better (e.g., reduce pain and anxiety). The same can be said for hypnosis. Based on the “power of suggestion” we can also use meditatation, visualization, and affirmation to lower stress.

Affirmations work in much the same way.

Reignite Your Passion

Practicing yoga helps us remember to celebrate life. During class we burn off, sweat off, twist off the spiritual amnesia (forgetting what fires you up!) In a nutshell it reminds us about what we love about our lives: Dancing, hiking, playing piano, running, cycling, painting, traveling. Forgetting what you love to do is a form of self-sabotage. For instance, if you forget about your dreams, then you never have to risk failure. However, just because you’ve decided to ignore your passions doesn’t mean they no longer exist. Besides life is too short to stop doing what you love.

So today invoke the Fire Element, known in sanskrit is AGNI.

passionpurposeFire is the energy of transformation or change. If you think about the power (Shakti) of fire it can take metal and change it into any shape. Fire is also symbolic of rebirth. It cleanses, burns off the negative and energizes one to light the path forward. Then we move confidently in the direction of what we love with great PASSION.

It is visible to everyone. You can see it. In the words of Philosopher Hebbel, “Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.” And no one else can tell you what fires you up, only you can decide “how to set your life on fire” -Rumi.

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
~ Harold Whitman

Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it and hold true to your biggest dreams! Love yourself, love your day, love your life! Silvia @inspiredyogagal

Why Travel is Like Yoga

Remember when you first started yoga? How all the poses seemed so separate from one another? Then at some point, the transformation happened and you started to feel the poses in relationship to each other. This feeling of union within yourself eventually grows to include everyone in the room. “Yoga exists in the world because everything is linked,” Desikachar writes. In that moment of self-acceptance, the diversity of shapes, bodies, breath, and histories all link together as one.

Yoga embraces diversity just like travel does. And in the words of Mark Twain travel (like yoga) “is the enemy of prejudice.”

When you change the ecology of your mind by visiting other places you realize how much we all have in common. At the same time you learn to appreciate those ways we might be unique – food, wine, spices, dress. You come to see strength in this union of relationship between our commonalities and differences. As a result, you are forever changed. Your ability to accept others like you do yourself changes everything. Love yourself, love your day, love your life! Silvia

Who are the World's Happiest Countries?

This is the list presented by the good work of Eric Weiner, author of Geography of Bliss who visited 10 of the happiest places. These include:
*India,
*Bhutan,
*Thailand,
*Switzerland,
*The Netherlands,
*Qatar,
*Iceland. (for the other 3 we encourage you to read his book)

This is one of my favorite books and continously inspires me to travel and see the world as a catalyst for personal development. He talks about “How place – in every aspect of the world – shapes us, defines us. Change your place, I believe and you can change your LIFE.”

Growing Through Self-Study Benefit of Yoga Teacher Training

“Growing is the most important and essential endeavor that a human being can undertake. You can make money, you can be promoted or demoted in the world. Never, at any stage, is there certainty about what will happen to you in this life. However, there is one thing nobody can ever take away from you-the growth you attain through your own search for Self-knowledge. Furthermore, this growth and understanding become the foundation that sustains you through any and all worldly difficulties, and that allows you-whatever the form of your physical experience- to find in life a continuously unbroken flow of total well-being.” — Swami Chetanananda

My Alchemy of Yoga RYT200 Teacher Training (aka Self-Study Program) was created from this intention that our growth and personal transformation comes as a result of knowing ourselves better. I want to give you the support, space, and time to get a Master’s degree in YOU. There is no better subject to be expert in that yourself.

Join me in Costa Rica this July 31-August 18, 2013 for this incredible destination RYT200 Yoga Teacher Training Program hosted by The Sanctuary at Two Rivers!
