Best Things to Do Koh Samui Thailand

We have done the work for you to find the best excursions on Koh Samui. These are included in your Yoga Retreat.

Boat Trip to Snorkel at nearby coral reefs and secret, hidden islands

IMG_1504During the course of the day you will encounter the best snorkeling sites to be found whilst staying on Koh Samui. Our tour consists of a private boat trip to nearby deserted coastlines.  We’ve researched the best coral and snorkeling, on the island, and soon, you’ll be immersed in the amazing, underwater life just below the surface.

We will also trek through the nearby jungle to find the perfect secluded vista. The water is clean, calm and the perfect temperature. Join us as we explore the conservation island’s hidden treasures that exude a primordial beauty.

This excursion is the perfect experience for anyone looking for a great day on and in the water only 15 minutes from Samahita Retreat Center, Koh Samui!

Guided Temple Hike to Laem Sor Pagoda, Sleeping Buddha and Bang Kao Beach

On this excursion, we will see many beautiful, and historic things.  The Laem Sor Pagoda is at the southernmost tip of Koh Samui at the end of Bang Kao Beach. Its golden hue makes for an astonishingly beautiful contrast to the blue skies and the turquoise sea behind it. The entrance is guarded by two ‘Yak’ (meaning giant) warrior statues with immense swords, colourful clothing and scary faces. The Buddha stands in the doorway to the rear of the statues. This is a great photo opportunity as there is absolutely nothing obstructing your view.

Koh Samui’s Mummified Monk at Wat Khunaram is an unusual sight yet it offers a unique insight into Buddhist and Thai culture. The monk Luong Pordaeng died in 1973 in a seated meditative position, and ever since his body has been on display in an upright glass case at the temple. Remarkably, even more than 30 years on the monk’s body shows little sign of decay. For some visitors, having a dead man in full view might be a shocking sight, but for Thais it is something to reflect upon and revere.

From here, we will hike up the hill to the very southernmost part of the island, which offers commanding views of the Gulf of Thailand.  There are also countless Buddhas, including a giant, sleeping Buddha, as well as Pagodas and various places of worship.  This is a very special place on the island, and we will learn about the significance of this to the locals and to visiting Buddhists, who come from afar to visit this sacred place.

Wellness Infrared Sauna Detox Therapy

Fitted with a number of Far Infrared heaters, the system emits Infrared energy which can be likened to the rays of the sun without the harmful UV element. Infrared radiant heat is absorbed directly by the body without having to heat the surrounding air, as with traditional saunas; the lower temperature of the Far Infrared sauna allows for more comfortable, longer session times and therefore deeper detoxification for detox wellness.

American research has shown that users of Far Infrared Saunas excrete up to 20% more toxins than users of conventional saunas. The toxins excreted in a Far Infrared Sauna therapy include cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia and uric acid; these toxins are not released in sweat from normal exercise.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy is an integral part of our Detox Programs and Wellness Spa Programs

The Finnish pine sauna comfortably accommodates two people so you can share a session with a friend or just relax with some soothing music while you sweat your toxins away as part of your detox therapy programs.

Guests are welcome to use the steam room at no charge; however, we do require that you sign up in advance. The best time to use our herbal steam room is later in the day, while enjoying the sunset and the early part of the night. Detoxifying Therapies

A Touch of Ayurveda (1-1.5 hours)

Ayurveda, ‘The Science of Life”, the ancient Indian system of Natural Healing that follows Nature’s Laws to achieve a balanced state of health. Applying our hand blended, natural Ayurvedic oil to balance Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas, in your choice of Swedish or Therapeutic massage. “A Touch of Ayurveda’ is a harmonizing treatment to bring equilibrium to your whole being whatever your constitution.

Therapeutic Massage (1-1.5 hours)

Our therapeutic massage is tailored to each individual’s needs, as well as promoting overall relaxation. You can discuss any concerns or areas of pain/tension with our therapist before the session begins. The sequence of massage will restore balance to body and mind. Extra attention will be paid to specific problem areas. This treatment is ideal for reducing muscular aches and pains, stress, anxiety and is for sports conditioning as well as relaxation.

Aromatherapy Massage (1-1.5 hours)

Special treatment oils combined with expert therapeutic techniques will awaken your senses as well as harmonize your body and mind.

Swedish Massage (1-1.5 hours)

This unique massage will melt away your tension leaving you feeling fresh and energized.

Sabai Massage (1 hour)

“Sabai” means “comfort” or “relax” in Thai. Our Sabai massage concentrates on pressure points along the spine and back to relieve tension, rebalance your nervous system and improve circulation.

Traditional Thai Massage (1-1.5 hours)

Originated in India, traditional Thai massage combines the art of thumb, elbow and palm pressure with full yoga stretches and along the meridian lines. It is unique in its energetic and physical reputation based on Ayurveda and yoga. Optional Herbal Compress.

Foot Reflexology Massage (1 hour)

This ancient method of healing is based on the theory that every organ, muscle and gland of your body is reflected in the ‘reflex points’ of your feet. The foot is divided into reflex points which are massaged during the treatment to clear the energy channels of the body, improving circulation and relieving tension. Optional Thai Herbal Compress.

Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a therapy that involves applying ayurvedic medicated oil to the body with a light to medium touch. Different from a regular massage, the oil is applied for its therapeutic benefits including grounding, relaxing and softening the muscles, ligaments and connective tissue. The heated oil causes the tissues to release built up toxins. Repeated applications of oil dissolves the sticky toxins, which build up in the tissues, and helps to revive the metabolism and reopen the channels, removing obstructions in the tissues. Abhyanga is one of the best treatments for balancing Vata dosha.

Galvanic Facial Treatment

Combine our relaxing facial massage with Nu Skin Galvanic treatment. This device uses a low level galvanic (electric) current to facilitate the transport of key ingredients into your skin for improved cleansing, hydration, circulation, and radiance.

The pre-treatment facial gels contain TEA Cocoyl Glutamate to purify your skin and allow your pores to breathe and soothing extracts of marigold, sea kelp, and vanilla. The treatment facial gels contain magnesium to promote cellular energy, arginine (amino acid) to facilitate recovery from stress. Aspartate (proteinogenic amino acids) helps to naturally balance your skin’s PH and pure vitamin E to help moisturize, condition and provide antioxidant protection.

Chi Nei Tsang Abdominal Massage

This ancient Chinese holistic treatment focuses on “internal organ chi transformation”. Chi Nei Tsang literally means “working the energy of the internal organs”. This frees the blockages in the abdomen and guides the healing energy through the entire body, by massaging a series of points in the navel area with deep, soft and gentle touches. This detoxifying massage is excellent for those who have digestive and constipation problems, back pain and stress. It is particularly recommended on the days prior to and following a Colon Hydrotherapy Treatment.

All About Thai Massage

thaimassage

Thai massage stimulates the acupressure points in relation to the concept of energy lines in the body.  This stretches and loosens tightened muscles, releases tension and relieves joint pain. Thai massage leaves you feeling both relaxed and energized. In addition, Thai massage uses the technique of blocking and releasing the blood flow by applying sustained pressure for around 30 seconds to the areas where legs and arms meet the torso. This is a real circulation booster and helps fresh, oxygenated blood flow to the muscles.

ChineseMeridians

Meridians and pressure points

The Thai masseuse uses full yoga poses as well as his or her thumbs, elbows, and palms to put pressure along the meridian lines. It is unique in its energetic and physical reputation based on Ayurveda and yoga. This ancient massage technique stimulates energy flow by increasing blood circulation, lowering blood pressure and dispersing tension. It is ideal for muscle relaxation, increasing flexibility in your muscles and increasing mobility.

Thai massage is an intense, spiritual, and meditative process that is best enjoyed in the land of its origin. One of the reasons we chose Samahita Retreat for our Thailand trip this year is the skilled team of therapists and nurses.  Their programs combine the wisdom of ancient ayurvedic and yogic teachings along with a full modern understanding of nutrition and physiology.
